Making Fetch Happen
Scouted analyzes each article, uses a custom-built AI model to organize stories by topic, and identifies the places where they matter.
With that info, Scouted shows local news for your city, regional updates for your state or province, national stories for your country, and global coverage from around the world.
Good News From a Good Boy
Scouted is a project of Scouted Media, a nonprofit organization based in Ottawa, Ontario. Our mission:
- To advance public access to independent news, in order to foster an informed and engaged society.
- To develop tools and services that enable independent journalists to reach wider audiences and sustain their work.
- To create mechanisms for independent journalists to receive compensation for their work.
Our Chief Fetching Officer, Ted (pictured), represents what we value most: trust, curiosity, and independence. He's also our office dog.
Helping Readers, Helping Reporters
There are thousands of independent reporters producing great work every day, and we want to help them reach more people.
By bringing together the work of many small, independent outlets, Scouted helps readers discover the stories that matter most.
Our Inclusion Criteria
- Independent ownership: Sites must not be owned (in whole or in part) by a publicly traded company, hedge fund, private equity firm, or political/religious/advocacy group.
- Rigorous reporting: Outlets may cover any subject, but must follow recognized journalistic standards and publish clear ethics and privacy policies. Sites cannot consist solely of opinion or analysis.
- Editorial integrity: Sites must not exist primarily to promote the views or objectives of a particular individual or organization.
Sites featured on Scouted are usually members of at least one recognized association for independent news.
Inclusion is determined by Scouted staff and may be revised at any time.
